M.S./Ph.D. Position - Fall 2024
The Bioenergy and Environment Research Group (http://www.samirkkhanal.com/) in the Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, is currently seeking a highly motivated and qualified M.S./Ph.D. candidate to join our dynamic research team, with a planned start date in Fall 2024.
Research Focus:
The selected candidate will be engaged in cutting-edge research on bioconversion of food waste into feed, fuel, and bioproducts using the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens (L.)) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) (BSF). Prior research experience in biological waste treatment, including the design and operation of bioreactors, will be helpful for this position. The research project involves the operation of both lab-scale and pilot-scale systems aimed at converting organic waste into feed, fuel, and bioproducts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental/biological/agricultural engineering or entomology or a closely related field is required. We prefer candidates with analytical/lab skill, and capability of designing (hands-on) and operating a scalable system. The candidate must have a strong research aptitude. The position requires excellent written and oral English communication skills, including ability to prepare refereed journal articles and progress reports.
Assistantship and Benefits:
The Graduate Research Assistantship is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition, the M.S./Ph.D. candidate will receive a full tuition waiver and financial support for attending and presenting research findings at national and international conferences.
