Ph.D. Position - Spring 2024
The Bioenergy and Environment Research Group (http://www.samirkkhanal.com/) in the Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, is currently seeking a highly motivated and qualified Ph.D. candidate to join our dynamic research team, with a planned start date in Spring 2024.
The selected candidate will be engaged in cutting-edge research on anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic waste, such as food waste and lignocellulosic biomass, for bioenergy production. Prior research experience in biological waste(water) treatment, including the design and operation of bioreactors, is a prerequisite for this position. The research project involves the operation of both lab-scale and pilot-scale AD systems aimed at converting organic waste into bioenergy and organic fertilizer.
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental engineering or a closely related engineering field is required. We prefer candidates with a strong environmental engineering background, analytical/lab skills, and the capability of designing (hands-on) and operating a scalable system. The candidate must have an exceptional academic record and strong research aptitude. The position requires excellent written and oral English communication skills, including the ability to prepare refereed journal articles and progress reports.
Assistantship and Benefits:
The Graduate Research Assistantship is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition, the Ph.D. candidate will receive a full tuition waiver and financial support for attending and presenting research findings at national and international conferences.
